Alive As You Are
13 Most Beautiful_ Songs For Andy Warhol's Screen Tests
the secret migration
Anthology
Blue
I have been able to get into music again since quitting my day job.

There was a period of about 3 years or so where I did not listen to music.
It was a sad period.

So, now listening:
Darker My Love, Alive As You Are. Local band. Love this record -The Byrds Sweetheart of the Rodeo meets The Grateful Dead. Psychedelic Awesomeness.

13 Most Beautiful
. See this post. I heart Dean and Britta. Their cover of the VU's "I'm Not A Young Man Anymore" kills. The instrumental pieces on this album are great. "It Don't Rain In Beverly Hills" is also a highlight.

Because of Lisa Cholodenko: Mercury Rev's "In a Funny Way" from their album The Secret Migration and Joni's "All I Want" from her classic album Blue.
The Mercury Rev song is used in the opening credits of Cholodenko's film Laurel Canyon...besides Frances McDormand's performance, the opening credits were my favorite part of this film- 3 minutes of Los Angeles perfection. The Joni Mitchell song is featured in Cholodenko's new film, The Kids Are All Right, which I have yet to see.

Because of Linger & Quiet: Steve Miller Band's song "Journey From Eden." Check out Linger & Quiet's brilliant free podcasts if you haven't already done so.

Also- IRM, Charlotte Gainsbourg. No explanation needed really- she just may be the chicest woman alive.

Portishead's "The Rip" love it when this song gets all synth-y. From their album Third.

Chemical Brothers " K+D+B" from their album Further
.

Avi Buffalo's self titled album. They are cute.

So- what have you been listening to?

I really liked Laurel Canyon. Have you ever seen High Art? Same spot on depiction of place, except for New York. The scenes where they drive Upstate just capture that muggy, late August, Catskill magic hour thing so perfectly.

Oh, Rev. That's our friend Mary (Dave's wife) singing the high opera-ish part on "In a Funny Way." Rev is one of my top five favorite bands, ever. Period.

I am listening to the Fujiya & Miyagi Rev remix. So good. Also Sleigh Bells, Pantha Du Prince, Robyn Body Talk Pt. 1 (I love Robyn), Uffie...and endless mixes of The Midget. City Drop #36 is awesome. Ouch.

My music choices aren't as cool as everyone else's here. I just got and need to start listening to The National's "High Violet", The New Pornographers' "Together", and "Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust" by Sigur Rós.

My current favorite playlist is sort of eclectic, if not cool:
*Not a Robot, But a Ghost--Andrew Bird
*M79--Vampire Weekend (Daytrotter session)
*Such Great Heights--The Postal Service
*The Killing Moon--Echo & The Bunnymen
*5 Years Time--Noah & the Whale (Daytrotter session)
*Sad Song--Au Revoir Simone (Daytrotter session)
*Extraordinary Machine--Fiona Apple
*Young Folks--Peter Björn & John
*Bring on the Dancing Horses--Echo & the Bunnymen
*You're Not Coming Home Tonight--First Aid Kit (Daytrotter session)
*Giving Up the Gun--Vampire Weekend
*Big Wave--Jenny & Johnny
*The High Road--Broken Bells
*Pretty in Pink--The National (Levi's session)
*Go On, Say It--Blind Pilot (Daytrotter session)
*Actor Out of Work--St. Vincent
*Earn Enough for Us--XTC
*Furr--Blitzen Trapper (Daytrotter session)
*Oblivious--Aztec Camera
*My Girls--Animal Collective
*Sowing the Seeds of Love--Tears for Fears

Whew! That playlist goes on forever, but I love it :)
